Clara Maier is a political theorist and historian of political thought at Columbia University. She received her PhD from Cambridge University in 2017 and has taught in Cambridge and Berlin before joining Columbia’s political science department. Her current research is focused on legal and constitutional theory, particularly the history of German and continental European concepts of statehood, law, and democracy in the twentieth and late nineteenth centuries. Clara also works and teaches on the conceptual history of Nazism with a particular interest in the Frankfurt School, Hannah Arendt, Eric Voegelin and Ernst Fraenkel.
